Canada’s adult-use cannabis sales rebound to record CA$372 million in April

The Canadian cannabis market is growing quickly. In April of this year, Canadians spent CA$372 million on legal cannabis. This number represents a slight rebound from March, when sales of CA$358 million marked the first downturn in the market. It also represents a 23% increase over last year’s sales level of $300 million during April 2019.

Monthly sales of CA$372 million represent a slight rebound from March, when sales of CA$358 million marked the first downturn in the market.

Quebec led all provinces in April with month-over-month growth of 18%, bringing sales to CA$50.2 million. Quebec led all provinces in April with month-over-month growth of 18%, bringing sales to CA$50.2 million..

Sales were strong in Quebec, British Columbia and Alberta.

The three largest markets in Canada—Quebec, British Columbia and Alberta—saw strong sales during April. Quebec’s cannabis stores alone recorded almost CA$70 million in sales last month. BC recorded an additional CA$51 million in total sales plus an estimated CA$20 million in online revenues through its provincial website, while Alberta saw a combined total of CA$12 million online and in-store sales, according to the latest data from Statistics Canada. All told, adult-use cannabis sales were up by about 19% compared to March 2019′s figures for each province or territory that reported those figures publicly: Ontario (CA$26M), New Brunswick (CA$3M), Nova Scotia ($2M).

Canadian consumers demand for legal weed is still strong.

While overall trends are showing a plateau, it’s important to consider that we are coming out of a pandemic and recession.

While it’s true that legal cannabis sales peaked at the end of q4 2021, Statistics Canada data shows the month-over-month gain of 3.7% for April of this year, indicating mounting support for the market.

Canada’s recreational cannabis market is growing quickly, and the trend is expected to continue. According to Statistics Canada, Canadians spent CA$1.14 billion on legal weed in the first quarter of 2022, which is a record high for Canadian q1 cannabis markets.
